'It is about the economy, stupid!' - Mahama slams Bawumia over 50 questions

John Dramani Mahama, the former President and current NDC Flagbearer, has responded emphatically to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's recent challenge, emphasizing the centrality of economic issues in the upcoming elections.

In a pointed retort, Mahama quoted the famous campaign phrase, "It's about the economy, stupid!" from Bill Clinton's 1992 campaign, highlighting the pressing economic concerns of Ghanaians. His comments came after Bawumia posed 50 questions in response to Mahama's initial five, which were specifically focused on economic matters.

Mahama criticized Bawumia for diverting attention from these critical issues, likening his response to the simple nursery rhymes learned in early childhood. He stated, "It looks like our vice president has just learned those things in the 50 questions," and called for direct answers to the economic questions that matter to the electorate.

He underscored the urgency of addressing these economic challenges, arguing that the current situation in Ghana mirrors the economic crisis faced by the U.S. in the early '90s. "This election is about the economy, stupid!" he reiterated, urging Bawumia to engage directly with the economic questions rather than deflecting with irrelevant issues.
Mahama also urged Bawumia to answer the five questions without waiting for a debate, reminding him of past instances where similar demands were made without the need for formal discussions.

"Ghanaians are asking you five simple questions. Just answer them," he concluded, reinforcing the call for accountability in the face of ongoing economic struggles.
