Breaking News: High School Student's Age Confirmed in Fatal Stabbing Case

n a recent court session at La District Court, it was disclosed by police prosecutors that Godwin Mawuli, a final year student at Oreilly Senior High School accused of killing Edward Borketey Sackey, is indeed over 19 years old, born on July 10, 2005.

This confirmation grants the District Court jurisdiction over the case until the Attorney General's Office receives the complete case docket for further legal proceedings.

Magistrate Adwoa Benaso Asumadu-Sakyi requested a hospital report to verify the accused's age during the court session on September 19, 2024. The police prosecutor, Chief Inspector Paul Osei Adjei, presented evidence from various documents such as the accused's BECE certificate, National Health Insurance card, and SHS House-2 forms signed by his father, all indicating his birthdate as July 10, 2005.

The court granted the request for the accused to be remanded in police custody for ongoing investigations, with the expectation that the case docket will be forwarded to the Attorney General's Office for advice soon.

The Magistrate emphasized the importance of timely progress in the case, expressing concern for the deceased's family and urging the police not to delay the process.

The court adjourned the case to October 7, 2024, for an update on the investigations, with the accused yet to enter a plea. The family of the deceased showed strong presence in court.

The final-year student accused of fatally stabbing his classmate over a dispute regarding their parents' wealth has been provisionally charged with murder.
