UTAG Demands SSNIT Board Dissolution After Failed Hotel Sale Plan

The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has called for the immediate dissolution of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) board. This demand comes after SSNIT's failed attempt to sell 60% of its shares in four hotel properties.
UTAG believes the SSNIT board and top management showed poor judgment and corporate governance in this matter. They say this has severely eroded public trust in SSNIT's ability to effectively manage the Trust.
The controversial hotel sale plan faced strong opposition from labor unions. They had threatened nationwide strikes if the sale went through. Eventually, SSNIT had to terminate the sale process.
In a statement, SSNIT assured pensioners and contributors that it will continue to prudently manage the Trust's affairs for the sustainability of the pension scheme.
However, UTAG feels the SSNIT leadership's actions have damaged their credibility beyond repair. The Association now insists that a complete overhaul of the SSNIT board is necessary.
As the fallout from the failed hotel sale continues, the spotlight remains on SSNIT's leadership. Calls for accountability and a fresh start are echoing across Ghana's labor landscape.
