NDC Demands Immediate Halt to SSNIT Hotel Sale, Threatens Parliament Boycott
This comes despite the withdrawal of the private hotel owned by the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, from the proposed deal. The NDC MPs are urging the government to publicly announce that it has terminated the "questionable arrangement" to offload the SSNIT hotel shares to government officials under suspicious circumstances.
In a press statement released on July 12th and signed by their leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority asserted that the Ghanaian people have clearly expressed their opposition to this "dubious arrangement" by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government.
The Minority warned that until the government publicly cancels the deal, they will not cooperate with the government in Parliament. Furthermore, they stated that they will escalate their non-cooperation into demonstrations if the government does not make this announcement by July 16th.
"The Minority Caucus announces for the information of the general public that until the government makes it clear that it has stopped the sale of the SSNIT hotels, the NDC Caucus will no longer cooperate with the government in the handling of government business in Parliament," the statement read.
The NDC's hardline stance suggests the fallout from the failed SSNIT hotel sale plan is far from over, with the opposition party ratcheting up the pressure on the government to publicly acknowledge and cancel the controversial arrangement.
