Lifeless Body of Missing 3-Year-Old Found Floating in Galamsey Pit in Sefwi Akuraa

Sefwi Akuraa, Ghana - The lifeless body of a 3-year-old girl was discovered floating in an illegal mining pit (galamsey) in the Sefwi Akuraa farming community on Sunday afternoon.
The toddler had gone missing three days earlier while playing with other children in the area, which is located near the town of Samreboi in the Amenfi West Municipality.
After a desperate search by the community, her body was tragically found in one of the many galamsey pits that have proliferated in the town.
The girl's mother reported that she had briefly left her daughter playing with other kids, but when she returned the child had vanished. A search party was immediately organized, but it took three days before the child's body was recovered from the stagnant water in the illegal mining pit.
Residents have expressed grave concerns over the increasing number of dangerous galamsey operations in the area, which pose serious threats to the safety of community members, especially young children.
The incident has once again highlighted the urgent need to address the concerning rise of illegal mining activities in Ghana's rural communities.
