Ga West Education Directorate Hosts Reading Festival, Emphasizes Importance of Literacy
The Ga West Municipal Education Directorate, in collaboration with MNUN-West Africa, hosted a vibrant Reading Festival on July 23, 2024, highlighting the critical role of reading in the educational development of young learners.
The event, which took place in Amasaman, carried the theme "Learn to read, read to learn, read to explore," and featured a range of engaging activities, including reading, spelling bee, and art competitions for early grade students.Speaking at the festival, Ga West Municipal Director of Education, Victor Noye Tawiah, emphasized that reading skills are fundamental for students to thrive in the 21st century.
"Reading is the bedrock of educational success," Tawiah said. "By nurturing a love for reading from an early age, we are empowering our young learners to unlock a world of knowledge and opportunities."
The Reading Festival aimed to showcase the reading talents of early grade students and inspire others to develop a passion for literature. Tawiah also used the platform to encourage more females to pursue ICT-related fields, noting that the penetration of technology in teaching and learning is steadily improving.
"As we continue to integrate technology into the classroom, it is crucial that we ensure equal access and representation, especially for our female students," Tawiah said. "We must work closely with the government and other stakeholders to provide adequate ICT facilities in all our schools."
The event was well-attended by students, parents, and education professionals, who expressed their enthusiasm for the initiative and its potential to drive educational excellence in the Ga West Municipality.
