According to EC Chairperson Jean Mensa, a total of 131,005 security and media personnel have been included on the special voters list. This list comprises personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces, Police Service, Customs, Immigration Service, Prisons Service, and the Ghana Journalist Association.
To ensure a seamless special voting process, the EC has engaged with the heads of these agencies and the media association. Mensa stated that this was done to brief them on the modalities for applying for special voting, with the aim of preventing the issues that occurred during the 2020 elections.
The EC Chairperson further announced that the full list of special voters will be published on the commission's website next week. Additionally, the EC has provided pen drives containing the special voters register to the respective agencies and media houses. This will allow their members to review the list and report any errors or discrepancies to the commission.
In related news, GhanaWeb has reported on various recent events, including the arrest of individuals who boasted of sleeping with minors, as well as the appointment of a new Deputy Inspector General of Police.
Mensa expressed the EC's confidence that the 2024 election process will be incident-free and seamless, reiterating the commission's assurance that the election cannot be rigged.
These measures undertaken by the EC aim to ensure a transparent and well-organized special voting process for the upcoming general elections in Ghana.
