Ada College of Education NUGS Executives Engage GES Ada East to Support Pre-Tertiary Students
In a bold step toward improving education in the Ada East District, the local executives of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) at Ada College of Education have initiated a promising partnership with the Ghana Education Service (GES) – Ada East District. The student leaders met with the District Human Resource Manager, Hon. Nii Okai Samuel, and other GES staff to explore strategic ways to support pre-tertiary students in the area. The meeting, held in a spirit of collaboration and community development, focused on several key areas aimed at uplifting the academic performance and well-being of students.
One of the major highlights of the discussion was the proposal to offer scholarships to brilliant but needy students, especially those at risk of dropping out due to financial constraints. The delegation emphasized the importance of equal opportunity in education and the need to remove barriers for high-potential students.
Additionally, the team explored practical ways to improve academic outcomes in the district, particularly in preparation for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The meeting also addressed recent government educational interventions, including the increment of the feeding fee from GH¢1.50 to GH¢2.00 per day, as well as the provision of free sanitary pads for female students. Discussions centered on how these initiatives can be effectively implemented and monitored to ensure maximum impact.
According to the NUGS executives, the meeting laid a strong foundation for sustained collaboration between the College and the District Education Office. Both parties expressed commitment to working together in the interest of students across Ada East.
This partnership marks a meaningful step in student-led advocacy and shows how future educators can play an active role in shaping the communities they will one day serve.
