NPP Dismisses OSP’s Fugitive Claims Against Ken Ofori-Atta
NPP has strongly refuted claims by the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is a fugitive.
At a press conference on Thursday, February 13, 2025, the party’s National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, dismissed the allegations, insisting that Ofori-Atta is not on the run.
“Mr. Ofori-Atta can never be a fugitive. He is not a fugitive, and he will never be a fugitive. The OSP got it wrong. Once Ofori-Atta’s doctors declare him fit and healthy, he will return to the country,” Boakye asserted.

He further urged the Special Prosecutor to refrain from making statements that could incite public emotions and create unnecessary tension.
“Until then, the Special Prosecutor should avoid making sensational statements provoking public emotions and creating drama over a matter that could have been adequately resolved through correspondence.
“If you label your former finance minister a fugitive, which indeed he is not, it amounts to a national embarrassment when indeed the length of your correspondence is just two weeks, and you can’t wait. It is not as if the person is lost; the person cannot be traced,” he added.
According to Boakye, Ofori-Atta had formally informed the relevant authorities about his medical travels.
“Ken Ofori-Atta is not evading accountability as the OSP claimed. On January 2, 2025, he wrote a letter to the then Chief of Staff, Madam Frema Osei-Opare, stating that he was traveling to the United States for a follow-up medical visit. He included his current and reliable contact information.
“On January 22, 2025, Ofori-Atta again wrote to the new Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, to inform him that he was overseas for a medical examination,” he explained.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor, however, maintains that Ken Ofori-Atta is wanted for alleged corruption-related offenses linked to the Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML) contract, the National Cathedral project, and other financial dealings during his tenure as finance minister.
