Why Atta Mills continued to sleep at Osu Castle despite advice from his family to move out

Atta Mills Praised for Humble and Exemplary Leadership

Accra, Ghana - Samuel Atta Mills, the Member of Parliament for Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem constituency and brother of the late Ghanaian President John Evans Atta Mills, has praised his brother's sacrifices in providing sound and exemplary leadership to the people of Ghana.
Atta Mills highlighted his brother's humility and leadership qualities, citing an example of the late president's refusal to vacate the Osu Castle, which was then the seat of government, despite its structural deficiencies. Despite advice from his family, Atta Mills chose to stay at his house in Accra and work from the Osu Castle, citing the inconvenience it would cause to his neighbors and the cost to the nation.
The late president was fondly known as "Asomdweehene" (King of Peace) due to his humility and peaceful nature.

Wreath-Laying Ceremony Marred by Clashes
On July 24, 2024, a wreath-laying ceremony was held to honor the memory of the late President Atta Mills. However, the event was not peaceful as the late president's family and their political party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), clashed with a faction led by the former Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Samuel Koku Anyidoho.
Samuel Atta Mills, speaking on behalf of the family, has registered their displeasure over the incident and warned Anyidoho of repercussions for his actions, which disrupted the solemn event.
The tensions between the Atta Mills family and the Koku Anyidoho faction have escalated, as the family accuses Anyidoho of overstepping his bounds and lacking the legitimacy to participate in the commemorative activities.
The wreath-laying ceremony, intended to honor the legacy of the late president, has become embroiled in a political and family dispute, casting a shadow over the event and the lasting memory of President Atta Mills.
