Ghana Houseboy Jailed for Defiling Employer's Daughter
Owusu was charged with defilement and pleaded guilty to the crime. The court, presided over by Judge Dora Inkumsah Eshun, convicted Owusu based on his plea and handed down the seven-year sentence.
According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Opoku Aniagyei, Owusu was employed as a houseboy by the victim's family. The victim's grandfather also lived in the same room as the household.
The victim's mother had previously warned Owusu to stay away from her daughter, but he disregarded the warning.
Owusu was eventually arrested on March 9, 2024, after the mother reported the abuse.
During the investigation, it was discovered that Owusu had sexually assaulted the 12-year-old victim on two separate occasions. The court found Owusu guilty of the defilement charges and sentenced him to seven years in prison.
This case highlights the vulnerability of children, even in their own homes, and the need for stronger measures to protect them from such heinous crimes. Employers are urged to thoroughly vet and monitor their domestic staff to prevent such incidents from occurring.
The sentencing of Owusu sends a clear message that such abuses of trust and power will not be tolerated in Ghanaian society.
