Ketu South Faces Growing Threat from Rising Sea Levels

Ketu South

For years, residents of Ketu South have struggled with rising sea levels, losing homes, farmlands, and infrastructure to powerful tidal waves. Despite government efforts like the sea defence project, many communities remain at risk.

Recently, the situation worsened as tidal waves destroyed homes, cemeteries, and livelihoods, displacing hundreds. Many affected areas lie below sea level, making them highly vulnerable.

Volta Regional Minister James Gunu declared a state of emergency, calling the crisis a national security threat. While the government has provided relief items, residents want lasting solutions, like completing the sea defence project.

MP Abla Dzifa Gomashie and local leaders are pushing for urgent action. President Mahama has promised to prioritize coastal protection, but stalled projects like the Ghana Gas shelter initiative have left families without permanent solutions.

Without immediate action, the sea’s relentless advance could destroy more communities, leaving lives and livelihoods at risk.
