Here’s what the EC will do if the SDA Church decides not to release its facilities for use as centres
Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, the Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission, has addressed various concerns regarding the upcoming December elections. During a guest appearance on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo show on July 31, Dr. Quaicoe provided clarity on several issues related to the polling process.
One of the key points he addressed was the possibility of creating polling stations in vicinities closer to the premises of the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) or other churches if required. Dr. Quaicoe reassured voters that the electoral body is prepared to accommodate such needs to ensure that all eligible voters have convenient access to polling stations.
However, Dr. Quaicoe emphasized that the commission does not have the authority to extend voting hours beyond the stipulated time. He clarified that individuals who arrive at polling centers after 5 PM will not be permitted to vote, underscoring the importance of punctuality on election day.
"As much as we are committed to facilitating a smooth voting process, we must adhere to the established regulations," Dr. Quaicoe stated. "Voters need to arrive at their designated polling stations on time to ensure they are able to cast their ballots."
The Electoral Commission's preparations for the December elections continue to be closely watched, with various stakeholders expressing concerns and seeking assurances about the process. Dr. Quaicoe's recent statements aim to address these concerns and provide voters with the necessary information to participate effectively in the upcoming elections.
